1625 – Part-time Technical Architect

We have a remote, part-time (80 hours per month) Technical Architect role open with our public sector client.  Work will be done on Pacific Time, but there is flexibility in the hours.  They are looking for a candidate with the following skills:

– Strong hands-on Azure platform engineering experience, including design and implementation of Azure sandbox or landing-zone style environments.

– Deep Terraform experience, including module design, remote state backend, workspaces, state locking, plan/apply lifecycle, drift detection, and automated destroy/rebuild patterns.

– Experience building CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or similar DevOps tooling, including pull request workflows, approval gates, automated deployments, and scheduled jobs.

– Good understanding of OIDC / federated identity between GitHub and Azure, with no dependency on long-lived secrets or stored credentials.

– Hands-on experience with Azure infrastructure components such as VNet, subnets, NSGs, App Gateway / Load Balancer, VM Scale Sets, AKS, Key Vault, Managed Identity, Azure Monitor, and Log Analytics.

– Ability to design and automate infrastructure lifecycle operations, including spin-up, runtime autoscaling, nightly shutdown, weekend shutdown, cost controls, tagging, and budget alerts.

– Strong DevOps mindset with experience creating reusable deployment patterns, YAML workflows, runbooks, environment protection rules, and operational documentation.

– Ability to work with enterprise architecture, security, infrastructure, and application teams to translate architecture direction into working Terraform and DevOps implementation.

– Candidate should be hands-on enough to build and troubleshoot the platform directly, while also being able to explain architecture decisions clearly to leadership and technical teams.

– Public sector, pension, financial services, or highly governed enterprise environment experience would be a plus.
