4625 – Software Engineer (Firmware)

We have a Corvallis based client who is in search of a good Software Engineer to help with Software/Firmware design.  The initial contract will be 3+ months for the development work, then they will have the person available beyond the initial rollout for maintenance and enhancements, based on customer feedback.

Here are the skills they would need for this position from a technology perspective:

– Linux and Windows administration and development experience.

Software:

– Very strong in ReactJS (or some similar JavaScript framework)

– Fluent in Python

– Experienced with Django

– MySQL and SQL syntax

– Redis

Firmware:

– C code with GNU C compiler (gcc and AVR-gcc)

– C++

– wxWidgets

– AVR Toolchains

Additional notes on the role:

– Must be comfortable on the Linux command line and ready to do a little bit of ops work in addition to development.

– Client’s primary software application is a web application/service, but it’s running separately for each customer on their private intranets rather than the public Internet, so experience with building Linux installers is a big plus.

– The primary functionality of the software is to collect data from our client’s hardware products, so if you have an interest in development for the Internet of Things, this could be right up your alley. Our client is developing the firmware for those HTTP-enabled Things as well as the application that they communicate with.

– We are looking for a developer who doesn’t mind solving a mystery with some older code and enjoys adding additional documentation after the mystery is solved.

– Our client has one software that is active and one obsolete software that is being used sparingly.  The intent is to get their customers to move over to the new software with some fixes and upgrades such as a mapping feature of the end user.
